Riversdale is one of Saskatoon’s original communities and is ideally located near the centre of the city. The community is made up of single-family detached homes, apartments and duplexes. With the recent revitalization focus on Riversdale, it has become one of Saskatoon’s hottest neighbourhoods.
There are a number of community outreach organizations in Riversdale, including White Buffalo Youth Lodge, Friendship Inn, Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre and Salvation Army Community Services.
Princess Alexandra School is the public elementary school for the area and there are 3 parks making up a total of 44 acres. Victoria Park runs along the South Saskatchewan Riverbank. A Chinese Pagoda was recently unveiled in the park to commemorate the first Chinese immigrants to early Saskatoon. The park connects Riversdale to River Landing and the new Remai Modern art gallery, which is home to a large collection of linocuts done by Pablo Picasso.
The business district of 20th Street is the hub of the community with many of its historical buildings still standing. The Roxy Theatre was originally built in the 1930’s and is still in full operation to this day, featuring movies, concerts and community events. Along with the theatre, there are also many locally owned businesses and restaurants, including Drift Sidewalk Cafè, which features a rooftop patio, a hammock lounge, and more.
Giant Tiger supplies the residents with their groceries, and the year-round Farmers Market is a great stop to pick up fresh, locally grown produce, baking and to discover more local, small businesses. Saskatoon’s downtown and 22nd Street offers more retails and service options.
