And if you want to access Chestermere by air, you can use Chestermere (Kirkby Field) Airport. Originally known as Chestermere Lake from 1977 to 1993, Chestermere is a city in Canada’s Alberta province, within Rocky View County. Chestermere’s origins date back to 1884, when the pioneers of the city realized how valuable the body of water would be as a source of irrigation.
Once the irrigation development had been done by the earliest settlers, people began to use the lake for recreation. People began to lease land and build cabins where they would stay during the summer months. More and more people continued to visit Chestermere Lake, and the cabins gave way for more permanent homes. In 1977, the lake had 120 permanent homes and officially became known as the Summer Village of Chestermere Lake. With this new official status, the residents of Chestermere Lake gained more political influence and were able to mobilize the development of infrastructure and other social amenities. On March 1 1993, Chestermere was incorporated as a town.
Chestermere’s economic base relies on residential development, and the construction industry accounts for a large percentage of the business community. The town’s retail industry includes banks, video stores, restaurants, salon and spas, flower shops and many more. All these can be accessed at Chestermere Station, the Towne Square and also at Chestermere Plaza.
