Located at 1740, 9 Street NW, this Mount Pleasant 1740 is Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation’s first inner city project. It is supported and embraced by the City’s housing crisis and their homeownership initiative. A 31 unit, 4 storey development is organized in two linear blocks along the east-west axis, separated by an internal courtyard. The courtyard plan facilitates a series of double-exposure units, enhancing the street via the increased exposure and contributing to the creation of a vibrant extension of the community with a strong semi-public network within this open space. To maximize green space, parking is below-grade, accessed from the internal courtyard.
In an attempt to attract a wide demographic of occupants, the building consists of a number of unit types, ranging from +/- 400 square foot studio type living to +/- 1300 square foot 4 bedroom family living. All of which contribute to what it means to be a part of a community within the building, and on a larger scale, the neighborhood, and the city. A series of live/work units are located along the lane, giving life to what typically serves as an underutilized area of the site, and supplementing the commercial corridor of 16 avenue to the south. To maximize green space, parking is below-grade, accessed from the internal courtyard. A loggia acts as the connective tissue that bonds the buildings as one unified development.
